Headliner Magazine Features New DINER Single ‘Goodbye To Someday’

Introducing California-based Portland singer, songwriter and musician DINER with her exquisite country-esque new single ‘Goodbye To Someday’, as featured in Headliner Magazine. Written by DINER in collaboration with multi-platinum selling producer Kevin Bard, who has worked with Dan + Shay, and Parmalee, among others, and Emily Reid, who also provides backing vocals on the track, ‘Goodbye To Someday’ is a hopeful love song about finally meeting the right person for you. The track is a melodious pop offering with lush country music sensibilities that highlights DINER’s amazing vocal performance, and superb penmanship – it also comes with a captivating visualizer crafted by Bailey Nolfe (070 Shake, Latto) and Carianne Older (SZA, Kali Uchis) that reveals DINER as the rising pop star that she is.

Speaking about how she came up with the song title ‘Goodbye To Someday’, DINER says, “I was born in Chicago and my Dad was raised there, all he ever wanted was for the Cubs to win the world series someday before he died – they were in a 100-year losing streak. When they won the World Series in 2016, my dad cried harder than I’ve ever seen him cry. He grabbed all of us and told us how much he loved us, which is a moment I’ll never forget. The day after, there was a commercial of a little kid playing baseball in Franklin Park, and it said, ‘Say Goodbye to Someday’, and my dad cried every time he saw that commercial. I’ve had that saying stuck in my head forever and couldn’t decide whether it should be a love song or a winning victory song, but it easily became a love song.”

As for the inspiration behind ‘Goodbye To Someday’ and how the song came about, DINER adds that, “It was my first day working with Kevin and Emily, and I just threw the topic out there. We wrote the whole thing in about an hour, recorded it right after, and walked out with a demo in about five hours. I think the song is to bring hope that we will all find love, and that ‘say goodbye to someday’ moment will happen for all of us at some point. Whether it’s finally meeting the one, or winning the race, the word ‘someday’ can feel like never, and wishing that sentiment goodbye is a fun feeling. I want this song to be three minutes of fun and an easy listen. A good time. Light-hearted.”

Now living in Los Angeles where she is currently working on her debut EP to be released in 2024 via independent record label Saint & Citizen Music, the exciting singer-songwriter DINER is proud to bring her Portland roots with her everywhere she goes. Her unique upbringing, which includes working in her parent’s café from the tender age of 5, has shaped the woman and the artist that she is today. Reflecting on those formative years, DINER reveals, “I used to hide that I was the local diner girl, and that I worked there with my parents, but I found the beauty in it. I was raised by a community of people that knew me before I could ever see over the counter”.

DINER’s inspiration comes from growing up working in her parent’s diner, and the dream worlds she created in her head to help her get through her shifts. As she puts it, “Music has given me the ability to take from my present reality, and dream up my favourite scenarios. Whatever or however random it is, I can be anything when I’m listening to music. It becomes real for me, and I hope I can create that same feeling for others when they listen to my music.” Some of her spirit and motivation also comes from her mother Helen, who formed a band in her own parent’s garage in the 80’s, went on to share the stage with iconic bands such as Black Flag, and even recorded with The Dead Kennedys.
