Atwood Magazine Features New Kay Slice Single ‘Slice M Go’

On the back of the release of his latest single ‘Breeze’ in September, which was met with rave reviews and critical acclaim from tastemakers such as Earmilk, Wordplay Magazine, ThisIs50, Atwood Magazine, Ones To Watch, PAM Magazine, Sublime FM and KAZI Magazine, among others, fast-rising Dutch Ghanaian rapper, singer and producer KAY SLICEis back with a brand new rap-afrobeats fusion track titled ‘SLICE M GO’, as featured on Atwood Magazine. With high anticipation, he is gearing up to unveil his highly anticipated solo debut album, which is due for release in January 2022.

Produced by the Rotterdam native himself, along with his three-piece live band, ‘Slice M Go’ is an infectious and energetic fusion track driven by Kay Slice’s quickfire rap flow, sharp delivery, and piercing lyrics, over the lush live instrumental soundscapes led by glorious drum arrangements and synth keyboard progressions. Thematically, the song is about taking the negativity and unbelief that is thrown at us, and fuelling it into positivity and self-confidence. As Kay Slice explains, “it’s about the underdog who found a way to turn negativity into fuel to rise up”.

The accompanying ‘Slice M Go’ video sees Kay Slice collaborating once again with burgeoning Ghanaian cinematographer Edward Pappoe for an enthralling visual that was shot across three different landmarks in Ghana – Jamestown, Makola Market and Legon Botanical Garden. Staying through to the song’s theme of the underdog that rose through negativity, the music video for ‘Slice M Go’ captures the human fighting spirit and our inbuilt ethos of hard work and community, using the snapshot of Accra’s busy go-getting people as a microcosm of that spirit.

Speaking about the inspiration behind ‘Slice M Go’, Kay Slice says, “‘Slice M Go’ is a great marriage between hip-hop and afrobeat. The bridge is truly soulful and full of tranquillity, and it’s a song with a lot of contrasts. It’s sunny yet raw, energetic yet composed, and uplifting yet rebellious. This song is dear to me as it is my soundtrack to boldness. Being bold enough to believe in myself despite the disbelieve and prejudice based on my appearance. Bold enough to quit my job to fully pursue music. It’s the dare to start the quest of connecting with my roots in my own authentic way”.

Emerging as an exciting and fast-rising new artist in the Netherlands for his glorious hip-hop and afrobeats fusion, Kay Slice has performed for the Dutch Royal Family, as well as on the biggest Dutch TV entertainment show De Wereld Draait Door, with the likes of Red Bull Music, 3VOOR12 and VPRO also singing his praises. He is now on a mission to spread his unique blend of hip-hop, soul, Ghanaian groove, afrobeats and highlife across the rest of the world. His music speaks to self-love, identity, finding yourself and connecting deeply with ones’ roots, and when it’s all said and done, Kay Slice wants to have left a rich impression on his generation.
