Wonderland Premieres New Alus Single ‘Money Dance’

Rising pop-R&B star and singer-songwriter ALUS is kicking off her new year in exciting fashion as she unveils her new R&B and melodic drill fusion single titled ‘MONEY DANCE’, as premiered on Wonderland, which will serve as the precursor to her long-awaited and highly anticipated new EP that arrives later in the year.

Following the success of last summer’s ‘WIG!’, her collaboration with rap house artist Cakes Da Killa in celebration of Pride Month and in support of LGBTQ+ charity Transgender Law Center, the LA-based Latin American rising star is offering fans and critics alike a new dimension to her artistic versatility with the release of her masterful R&Drill single ‘Money Dance’.

Produced by Dubai-based beatsmith Shyy Beats, ‘Money Dance’ sees Alus in braggadocios mode from the start, as she rallies against the idea of men trying to use money to attract women. As Alus puts it, she is way too busy “doing her money dance” to pay these men any mind.

Musically, the track is driven by Alus’ captivating voice, infectious melodies, and defiant lyrics that champion women as providers for themselves and others, over a sliding bassline and thumping kicks, which add an ominous drill layer to the melodic R&B-tinged guitar backdrop.

Speaking about the inspiration for ‘Money Dance’, Alus says, “The song is inspired by the fact that women can provide for themselves. Not only is ‘Money Dance’ a celebratory song to congratulate yourself for your hard work, but it is about women’s economic empowerment and how liberating that can be.

Women should be celebrating their financial wins and never need to depend on someone to provide for us. ‘Money Dance’ was written from a perspective that says you don’t need to flash your wallet at me to get my attention. I can make my own money and provide for myself. As women, we should be able to celebrate our own wins by doing our ‘Money Dance’.

For the accompanying music video for ‘Money Dance’, Alus has collaborated with Mikey D’Amico (A$AP Ferg, DJ Khaled, Timbaland) to bring the R&Drill track even further to life. According to Alus, “Thematically, the video was inspired by classic gangster movies and characters.

Being a fan of film and TV that depict the gangster lifestyle like ‘Scarface’, ‘El Chapo’ and ‘Pablo Escobar’, I was inspired to create a female character that embodied the essence of these iconic characters, but more importantly as a woman. Women are rarely, if ever, seen as the leader in these films and stories. It was important for me to show that women can be the leaders of such intricate operations. Why do we always have to be a ‘Bond girl’ when we can just be Bond?

Driven by a vision to inspire all and serve as a beacon of solidarity and women empowerment, Alus stems from a lineage of talented musicians and has always been drawn to music, taking inspiration from her touring violinist grandmother who attended the revered Juilliard, and performed with Frank Sinatra’s Rat Pack.

Classically trained with guitar and piano skills, Alus comes with co-signs from Nicki Minaj, Big Sean and Steve Rifkind, scene-stealing performances at Madison Square Garden, SXSW and Nassau Coliseum, and has been championed by the likes of MTV, Paper Magazine, VIBE Magazine, Ladygunn, Popdust, Flaunt Magazine, and Live Nation’s Ones To Watch. ‘Money Dance’ is the lead single for her long-awaited new EP coming soon.
