Stupid Dope Features New Phyno Album ‘Full Time Job’

FULL TIME JOB, as featured in Stupid Dope, is the long-awaited and highly anticipated new album from award-winning Nigerian music icon PHYNO. Produced by frequent collaborators JaySynths (Burna Boy, OneRepublic) and Major Bangz (Davido, Kizz Daniel), with guest appearances from UK legend Chip, global music sensation Burna Boy, Brighton rap star ArrDee, and afroswing ambassadors NSG, the album is a dynamic exploration of personal growth, resilience, success, and love. It sees Phyno unpacking themes of self-confidence, trust, perseverance, and celebration, with his unique blend of indigenous rap, highlife, and afrobeats. The album reflects his journey through the highs and lows of life, offering an introspective look into navigating fame, relationships, and societal expectations while staying true to oneself.

Phyno opens Full Time Job in bold, urgent, and confident fashion with ‘It’s Nothing’ about the hustle and relentless pursuit of success, wealth and legacy. The energetic ‘Back Outside’ featuring Cheque sees Phyno speaking about living life to the fullest and pursuing happiness, while ‘Eyes On Dem’ brings Phyno and UK legend Chip together for an infectious yet introspective offering about self-awareness, trust issues, and dealing with fake love. ‘Do I’ continues in a similar vein, with Phyno brushing off external opinions, societal expectations, and unnecessary drama. The album then delves into more vulnerable themes of love, commitment, and dedication on ‘Deep’, and reflective themes of patience, perseverance and faith in the face of life’s challenges on ‘Nwayo Nwayo’.

Full Time Job continues its celebratory tone on the braggadocious ‘Men Don Show Face’ featuring Africa’s highlife king Flavour, and the praise-filled ‘Grateful’ where Phyno thanks God for His blessings, guidance, and protection, while he boasts of staying one step ahead of his competition on ‘Trouble Maker’. To round out the album, Phyno enlists afroswing sensations NSG for the groovy ‘Pinterest’, links up with afrofusion champion Burna Boy for a remix of ‘Do I’, and pulls in soulful crooner Johnny Drille for the hopeful highlife-esque love song ‘Sweet Karma’, before wrapping up the album with ‘Anthem Ndi Eze’, a perfectly-timed song of celebration that blends themes of success and resilience, with the desire to rise above adversity, with Phyno reminding us to maintain focus and stay resilient.

All in all, the album offers a balance of braggadocious anthems, introspective reflections, and heartfelt love songs, all underscored by Phyno’s signature style and lyrical versatility all over Full Time Job. It’s a celebration of his journey as an artist and a person, filled with messages of strength, resilience, and the importance of staying true to your roots and values while reaching for success. Speaking about the inspiration behind the album, Phyno says, “I’ve always believed that the path to greatness requires sacrifice, determination, and hard work, which will undoubtedly yield positive results. Greatness is not by chance – it’s a ‘FULL TIME JOB’, hence the title of this album. Through this project, I wanted to tell my story, and inspire others on their journeys, and I’m confident I achieved that”.

MORE ABOUT PHYNO

Award-winning rap phenom PHYNO is an iconic figure in Nigerian music, known for his seminal and captivating fusion of indigenous rap and afrobeats. With a career spanning over a decade, Phyno has established himself as one of Africa’s most influential artists, pushing the boundaries of contemporary African music while staying true to his Igbo roots. His journey began in Enugu, where he discovered his passion for music production during his high school days. Influenced by rap legends like 2Pac and The Notorious B.I.G., alongside Nigerian trailblazers like Mr. Raw, Phyno set out to merge his love for rap with the rich cultural sounds of his indigenous heritage, and the rest, as they say, is history.

Phyno’s breakthrough came in 2012 with the release of ‘Ghost Mode’, a now-classic collaboration with Olamide, which became a cultural milestone in the Nigerian music scene. His debut album No Guts, No Glory followed in 2014, delivering hits like ‘Man of the Year’ and ‘O Set’, and cementing his place as a leader in West African indigenous rap. Over the years, Phyno has consistently evolved his sound, releasing critically acclaimed albums, which showcased his versatility by blending highlife, afrobeats, and rap, including 2016’s The Playmaker, led by cult classics ‘Fada Fada’ and ‘Connect’, and his last album Something To Live For in 2021, which reflected his growth as both an artist and cultural figure.

Over the years, Phyno has also expanded his influence beyond his music. As the founder and CEO of the record label Penthauze, he is helping to shape the careers of the next generation of Nigerian superstars. He is also the founder of PhynoFest, one of Africa’s biggest music festivals. Making its debut in 2015, the annual festival now brings the best of Nigerian music, including previous headliners Burna Boy, Yemi Alade, and Mr Eazi, to over 50,000 teeming fans at the renowned Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium in Enugu. With ‘Time of My Life’ out now, and his next album Full Time Job on the way, Phyno is once again pushing the envelope, and setting the stage for even greater global music dominance.
