Quickly on the back of unveiling his brand new single ‘WRAP’, co-produced by Andre Hutchinson (Little Mix, Laura Mvula, Mae Muller), Birmingham born Manchester based artist, composer and musician DOMINIC LAWSON follows up with a vibrant and captivating new music video for the track, as premiered via Popdust.
Directed by London-based film maker and creative Jaron Johnson, the video for ‘Wrap’ is a colourful yet minimalist dance-led visual offering, which gives a nod to classic 90’s R&B music, and highlights Dominic in his performance prowess element, led by sexy choreography, crafted by Josh Wharmby, who has previously worked with the likes of Taylor Swift, Kylie Minogue, and Rita Ora.
Speaking about how the visual for ‘Wrap’ came about, Dominic Lawson says, “I knew I wanted the video for ‘Wrap’ to be all performance, so I enlisted the help of my good friend and choreographer Josh Wharmby to help me bring the vision to life, along with Jaron Johnson from the I Am Now Collective, who filmed and directed the video. We shot the video in Manchester, using R&B go-go dancers, Beyonce’s ‘Dance 4 U’ music video, and 90’s streetwear fashion, as reference points for the choreography, minimalist set design and silhouette visual shots along the way, and I think we created a great movement piece to bring ‘Wrap’ further to life ”.
Dominic Lawson comes with over 2 million plays under his belt already, from his previous work with legendary Hacienda DJs Graeme Parker and Mike Pickering, producers such as Marshall Jefferson, Midnight City, and House Of Virus, brass fusion collective Twisted Tubes, the legendary AMC Gospel Choir, and projects such as Garage Classical and Disco Classical, among others, with performances at Glastonbury Festival, Manchester Pride, and the Royal Albert Hall, plus previous support from BBC Radio 1, collaborations with Hermes and Bentley, as well as commissioned work for LadBible and the British Army Music Corps, on top of his acclaimed collaborations.
Fast emerging as a strong and exciting prospect in UK music this year, Dominic’s style is firmly rooted in R&B and soul, but with lush pop, rock, jazz and classical music sensibilities, he is revered for an artistic credibility and versatility that set him apart from the current music landscape. Having come off two special live shows in Manchester with his 12-piece band The Thunder this week, his new single ‘Wrap’ is the first of two singles, with which Dominic Lawson is kicking off his 2020, while he puts the finishing touches to his debut solo EP, which will be released in the autumn, and accompanied by his first ever solo UK nationwide tour before the year comes to an end.
