Picky Magazine Interviews NOVA About His New ‘Precious Diamond’ Video

Following on from the success of his last single ‘Replay’, which was released in the autumn and championed by the likes of Native Magazine, SingersRoom and Noctis Magazine, Toronto-based alternative afrofusion artist NOVA is kicking off 2021 with his bouncy new single titled ‘PRECIOUS DIAMOND’ featuring Toronto songstress and musician Katasha J, as he is continuing to tease out his upcoming fourth studio project and the highly anticipated follow-up to his seminal 2019 record S.T.A.Y (Still Think About You) titled S.T.A.Y II. He recently spoke to Picky Magazine about the video and much more.

Produced by Toye Aru, who has previously worked with the likes of Cruel Santino, Lady Donli and Kida Kudz, and engineered by Bankyondbeatz (Tay Iwar, Niniola, Show Dem Camp), ‘Precious Diamond’ is an infectious R&B leaning offering, with lush pop and afrofusion sensibilities, over which Nova continues to lean into the vulnerability he began to reveal on ‘Replay’, as he pines for experiencing life’s special moments with someone special, this time with the help of Katasha J, who adds her sultry harmonies and delicate vocals, to the glorious affair.

Speaking about the inspiration behind ‘Precious Diamond’, NOVA says, “this track is about appreciating that special someone in your life. Katasha and I worked this song the first day we met, and it was like magic. I had already started writing the song but when we connected everything just came together organically. What’s more precious than diamonds? Well, I wish everyone who gets to hear this has the opportunity to experience a connection that makes diamonds just a complimentary gift to that truly special person”.

Documenting the millennial love and relationship experience through his alternative afrofusion sound, Nova uses his versatile voice, honest songwriting, infectious melodies and lush soundscapes to create exciting music that sits in a unique pocket offering the best of hip-hop, R&B, soul and afrobeats in a glorious fusion. Born in England to an American father and a Ghanaian mother, raised in Nigeria, and now living in Canada, the influence of these vibrant and diverse cultures can be heard throughout Nova’s innovative genre-bending sound.
