Notion Magazine Features New Tsharna EP ‘About That Time…’

Having recently been gaining popularity online for her amazing voice and ingenious R&B remakes of some of our favourite hit songs, which have led to co-signs from Wretch 32, Neikd, Krept & Konan, and Nana Rogues, among others, as well as strong support from the likes of BBC Introducing, Soul Surge and The Unsigned Guide for her own music along the way, emerging Luton singer, songwriter and musician TSHARNA is excited to unveil her beautiful debut EP titled ABOUT THAT TIME…, as featured on Notion Magazine.

Written and composed by Tsharna, with production from Sunsetdrver (Lylo Gold, Shaé Universe), Machine Baby (J-Hus, Ghetts, Giggs), and longtime collaborator Solikeys, About That Time… is an exquisite and understatedly sexy R&B offering that sees Tsharna take her listeners on a reflective, honest and vulnerable journey through her personal experiences with love and romance – from initially questioning the concept of love, and eventually losing herself to the emotion of it, to obsessing over relationships, and now gaining the strength to manifest the kind of love she wants for herself.

The EP opens with lead single ‘Think About Me’, which sees Tsharna naively giving her love away without reciprocity, and the playful ‘Curfew’ about the excitements of young puppy love, before she reminisces over a deep and exhilarating love on ‘Shiver’, and offers up her most emotional and vulnerable song on the EP with ‘For Life’ where she manifests the kind of lover she wants. Tsharna brings About That Time… to a close with the headstrong ‘Insane’, over which the Luton native reveals the extent of her loyalty to her lover, even to her own detriment.

Speaking further about the inspiration behind her About That Time… EP, Tsharna says, “I used the phrase ‘About That Time…’ because I frequently relive these moments in my head as if it were a diary. I prefer to think of these songs as a representation of those experiences, and the title is recalling those moments of my life. The title also has another meaning for me – it’s like I’m in a big music hall listening to the DJ introduce each new song for the night. When you hear them say, ‘alright it’s about that time we slow things down’, you just know the rest of the night is about to be nothing but R&B. In this case, I’m the DJ, I’m the storyteller providing a look into my world”.

Born in Luton to Jamaican and St. Lucian parents, Tsharna grew up listening to reggae, soca and dancehall, and began writing poems from as early as 8-years old. Inspired by legends such as Whitney Houston and Etta James, her poetry soon turned into ballads, with a newfound penchant for contemporary R&B expanding her musical palette. Tsharna went on to study music at BIMM London, and has been releasing music independently since 2018. With her amazing debut EP About That Time…, Tsharna is excited to step into the spotlight with her lush soulful R&B music.
