Notion Magazine Features New Bossiie Single ‘Covid Blues’

Introducing up and coming South African musician, DJ and producer BOSSIIE, with her exciting new amapiano single titled ‘COVID BLUES’, as featured by Notion Magazine.

Written, composed, and produced by BOSSIIE and MFR Souls, the infectious track is driven by her captivating amapiano soundscapes and laced with lush R&B and mellow afrohouse sensibilities. It is the second single from her upcoming sophomore EP titled Porsche Music, and the track also comes with a sexy and intimate video directed by burgeoning British filmmaker Miles Gould, which reveals BOSSIIE as the irresistible artist that she is and a rising star in the making.

‘Covid Blues’ takes BOSSIIE back to the height of the global pandemic, and sees her speaking to our collective desire to be around our loved ones through those times. The London-based Johannesburg artist, producer and DJ also waxes lyrical about trying to keep her love life alive in the middle of a lockdown, while the world seemed to be crumbling all around her, with longing lyrics like “I’m trying to be somebody’s somebody” and “send a nude, I’m in a mood”. According to BOSSIIE, “even if we could not see each other, at least technology was still there to facilitate the ongoing of our relationship”.

Speaking about her inspiration for ‘Covid Blues’, BOSSIIE says, “the song is inspired by the lockdown period, which left me very lonely and longing to be around my loved ones. Lockdown felt like desperate times and one of my family members suggested that I write a song about how I was feeling, but also about how vulnerable we all felt – from people who couldn’t get by and do things themselves to the likes of the elderly and the sick as well. The thought was overwhelming for me, so I wanted to write something that would cheer people up instead of going deep into the sorrow that we were all going through”.

Explaining further about where she eventually would take the song, BOSSIIE adds that, “I wanted to write it in a way that would get us dancing and thinking of romance instead of the sad and lonely parts of the lockdown. I thought about how much lovers missed each other during the lockdown. ‘Covid Blues’ highlights the importance of belonging, which is something that seemed not to exist during the lockdown. In a nutshell, ‘Covid Blues’ is about turning that sadness into romance and dance, and encouraging my people to carry on, no matter how devastating the lockdown might have been”.

Born in Johannesburg, South Africa and currently living in London, United Kingdom, BOSSIE was raised in a musical household, with her mum being a guitarist and her dad playing the organ. She has been writing music since she was 13, and taught herself to make beats and produce music in 2013. Her musical style can best be described as amapiano music with a hint of rap and R&B, and she draws influences from a wide spectrum of sounds – from Drake and his producer Noah ‘40’ Shebib, to film score composer Hans Zimmer and pop legend Janet Jackson, to rap icons Nipsey Hussle and Metro Boomin.

BOSSIIE made her debut in 2012 with the mixtape Adventures Of Catwoman and followed that up with her debut EP Tjovitjo in 2014, before going on to explore her other creative avenues including producing, DJing and acting. Outside of her own music, BOSSIIE has also produced for the likes of Scorcher, Naira Marley and Jammz under her Vais Versa moniker, while as an actress, she has featured in videos for Headie One, Krept & Konan and Mr. Eazi, among others. She is all set for a really strong 2022 with the upcoming release of her Porsche Music EP, driven by her stellar new single ‘Covid Blues’.
