Illustrate Magazine Features New YUS Single ‘A Way Out’

‘A WAY OUT’, as featured in Illustrate Magazine, is the exquisite new single from Belgian American dream pop artist, composer, and producer YUS (real name Youceff Kabal), which the Los Angeles based musician has been working on for a decade. Written in the Spring of 2012, and released briefly in 2016 under a different moniker, before being revised over the past three years, ‘A Way Out’ is the second in a series of singles from YUS that will serve as precursors to his upcoming fourth studio album titled Hyperspiritual, which is set for release in the Spring of 2023.

Driven by his ethereal vocal delivery, piercing synth-heavy keyboard arrangements, and emotive songwriting abilities, ‘A Way Out’ sees YUS exploring his desire to save a relationship from its potential end – despite their challenges, he doesn’t want to let the other person out of his life. The enthralling dream pop offering also seeks to dismantle a fairly universal but not often helpful theme of always seeking outside counsel for relationship advise when things go wrong, instead of trying to look within ourselves to find the answers.

Speaking about his inspiration for ‘A Way Out’, YUS says, “It is a song I originally created in April 2012, as an ode to my girlfriend at the time. We’d been in a romantic relationship for about 5 months, and though I believe we were both happy with each other, some question marks were beginning to arise. I wanted to tell her that I was open to pursuing the relationship however she wanted, be it romantically, or as friends. I just wanted her around.

I was also struggling with being myself around her, which I believe is what she truly wanted, as opposed to being someone I was not in order to keep the relationship going. She wanted me, so why couldn’t I just be that? I think I was fairly impressionable in my late teens and early 20s, and came across a lot of relationship advice as a result of living on the internet, I was trying to let go of all of the stuff I’d read, and try to look within instead. I still struggle with some of these things today”.

Born in Brussels, raised in Phoenix, Arizona, and now living in Los Angeles, YUS is the interesting musical project of artist, composer, and producer Youceff Kabal. Straddling the fence between dream pop, alternative, chillwave, indie pop and electronic music, YUS draws from an eclectic mix of influences across music, film, arts, theatre, and mixed media, to create his uniquely emotive soundscapes that strike listeners with their depth and impactful lyrics.

Since his debut a decade ago, YUS has released three acclaimed albums, and been championed by the likes of Mahogany, Nialler9, The 405, and XFM, with co-signs from the likes of Toro Y Moi, clipping., Youth Lagoon, and SALES, to mention a few. His fourth album Hyperspiritual arrives next Spring, with much anticipation, and to celebrate the release of his new single ‘A Way Out’, YUS returns to the stage for a headline concert on November 13 at 1720 in Los Angeles.

Released via Manneken Records, ‘A Way Out’ will also come with a version that was recorded at the renowned Endless Noise in Santa Monica, while the Bandcamp digital exclusive will include the briefly released 2016 version, and the original demo from 2012
