IGGY Magazine Features New Shamim Single ‘U R ME’

As featured by IGGY Magazine, ‘U R ME’ is the sensual and captivating new single from South London R&B songstress SHAMIM as she gears up to unveil her long-awaited debut EP in 2022. Her new single ‘U R ME’ comes on the back of the success of her first two tracks ‘Option & Priority’ and ‘Intentional’, which have seen the R&B newcomer garner rave reviews and support from the likes of SingersRoom, New Wave Magazine, Guestlist Magazine, Kingsize Magazine and Word Is Bond, among others.

Written by Shamim and produced by Jaydot, who has previously worked with the likes of Summer Walker, Nelccia and Beenie Man, among others, ‘U R ME’ is a powerful and captivating declaration of love from the British Ugandan native. The song opens with a romantic poetry manifesto, before lush synth keys kick in and Shamim’s sultry voice ushers listeners further into her expansive love-centered universe, underpinned by her vulnerable and relatable songwriting, her hypnotic melodies, as well as the musical backdrop’s infectious drum patterns and synth-heavy bassline.

For the accompanying music video for ‘U R ME’, which was shot at the prestigious Sadler’s Wells Theatre and docklands riverside, with inspiration from some of her favourite romantic films such as Pretty Woman and Dear John, Shamim collaborated with film director Prince Mensah, visual director Mawiya Williams and designer Suma Nako to bring the track further to life and delicately showcase a beautiful love story between two people growing in love with each other. According to Shamim, “we wanted to ensure that the viewer is taken on a mesmerizing and authentic journey of love”.

Speaking about the inspiration behind ‘U R ME’, Shamim says, “the song is inspired by the feeling of growing in love with someone. The song is about the power of love. As love is the highest frequency, it is an exceptional phenomenon that every human being craves but can also breed so much pain. Nonetheless we must remain open and vulnerable to the idea because love is the greatest gift of them all. I believe in having faith for things I haven’t seen or experienced yet, and with this song, I decided to create a world where the love that my heart desires exists”.

Highly recommended if you like the sounds of Rihanna, Jorja Smith, Summer Walker or SZA, Shamim is already showing all the early signs of an R&B star in the making, and she is excited to stake her claim as one of the UK’s brightest new talents with her anticipated debut project. Born in Uganda and raised in the UK to the musical influences of legends like Etta James, Nina Simone and Otis Redding, Shamim is driven by honesty in music and puts truth at the core of her message, with a determination to create with the same freedom and fearlessness as many of her idols.
