Since its release in October, Kizz Daniel’s new single with EMPIRE titled ‘Cough (Odo)’, as featured in Iggy Magazine, has been causing quite the stir across the world and has become an international hit single, amassing over 150 million plays online in just two months, and today (December 16), the award-winning Nigerian pop star is excited to unveil the highly anticipated music video for ‘Cough (Odo)’. Shot on location in Lagos and directed by bourgeoning filmmaker Director K (Wizkid, Tems, Rema), the vibrant and colourful visuals bring the track further to life, with its glorious themes of fresh love and romance.
Serving as one of the focus tracks for the new EMPIRE compilation album Where We Come From (Vol. 1), ‘Cough (Odo)’ sees Kizz Daniel in his afropop element as he joins forces with producers Philkeyz and Blaisebeatz (Chris Brown, Wizkid) to deliver what has become one of the biggest afrobeats songs of the year, despite only being out for two months. Speaking about the inspiration behind the song, Kizz Daniel says, “For this song I wanted to highlight the feeling of new love. The song itself is energetic and celebratory, and it really captures what it’s like to fall for someone new”.
With over two billion streams under his belt and 20 million fans on social media, Kizz Daniel is one of the leading figures that are exploding afrobeats on the worldwide stage, having just performed at the 2022 World Cup opening event in Qatar. The enigmatic singer, songwriter, and musician is the epitome of an all-round entertainer with a magnetic tone, captivating lyrics, alluring stage and screen presence, and an undeniably infectious musicality, which are just some of the irrefutable characteristics of all his songs, cutting across genres from afrobeats to pop and R&B music.
