FIZZY Magazine Features New Lyves Single ‘Shame’

After announcing her long-awaited sophomore EP Change in the Spring with its exquisite title track ‘Change’ and the alt-R&B offering ‘How Would It Feel’, which were championed by the likes of The FADER, BBC Radio 1, Notion and COLORS, among others, independent London-based artist, songwriter, and producer LYVES comes bearing gifts by way of her genre-defying new single ‘SHAMEas featured in FIZZY Magazine, the next offering from her upcoming EP, as she also reveals the November 18 release date for the 5-track project that has become highly anticipated by fans and critics alike.

Written and produced by Lyves in collaboration with Mercury Prize nominated musician, and producer Dave Okumu (Adele, Jessie Ware, Amy Winehouse, St. Vincent), ‘Shame’ is the Italo Australian native’s boldest track yet, and it sees her continuing to push the envelope when it comes to progressive forward-thinking R&B and soul music. Celebrating Lyves’ eclectic artistic stylings, the alternative offering fuses elements of breakbeat, future garage, ‘80s soul and psychedelic rock together to create something that is truly spectacular.

Speaking about how ‘Shame’ came together, Lyves says, “it was written in a late evening jam at my former studio. I found this amazing drum sample and very quickly played a few ideas over it to create a vibe. It felt reflective of the mood I was in – I wanted to create something fierce that represented a side of me that I don’t often express musically. I imagined how this record would sound live and performed the vocals off a vocal stand, as if I were performing a live show. Those initial takes are the same ones used in the final version of the song. It just feels raw and unfiltered and somewhat chaotic, which I love but the lyrics behind it are very meaningful to me”.

Lyves is the amazing solo project of British-born Italian Australian singer, songwriter, and producer Francesca Bergami. Deeply inspired by music that feels raw and deeply personal, Lyves draws influences from sonic soundscapes that run the eclectic gamut, from Enya, Moby, and Philip Glass to Bill Withers, Frank Ocean, and James Blake. Despite coming to music quite “late”, having studied psychology and worked as a mental health advocate for sectioned children and adults, Lyves has been able to channel that advocacy role into her music, where she supports and nurtures her listener into healing, honesty, growth, and empowerment.

With over 60 million streams online and critical acclaim from global tastemakers including Rolling Stone, NME, BBC 6 Music and KEXP, Lyves is revered for her emotive lyrical themes, empowering voice, and making music that digs deep. Having taken the past two years away from the limelight to hone her craft as a producer and songwriter even further, Lyves is excited to bring listeners into this new era of her music, which feels even more revealing, raw and free than previous works, underpinned by a fusion of genre influences, from jazz, Motown and soul to experimental electronica, folk and R&B, which has always been at the heart of what she does.

‘Shame’ is the latest single from Lyves, taken from her upcoming sophomore EP ‘Change’, which is set for release on November 18.
