Earmilk Premieres New ZEE EP ‘Summer ’98’

With over a million plays under his belt as well as early support from the likes of Power 106, iHeartRadio, and Germany’s Jam 93.6 FM, LA-based Canadian artist, songwriter and producer ZEE is excited to release his brand new debut EP titled SUMMER ’98, as premiered by EARMILK.

Taking inspiration from late 90s hits from Aaliyah, Jay Z, Destiny’s Child and Usher, among others, while merging his R&B and hip hop music sensibilities to great effect, and taking his songwriting and production dexterities up several notches from his previous offerings, ZEE delivers a truly standout project with his new Summer ‘98 EP.

Written and produced by ZEE himself, with additional production from collaborators such as Plaino, Myles Jacob, and Rawsmoov (YG, French Montana, E-40), the Summer ’98 EP sees ZEE taking us on a chronological journey of his last relationship, from the ‘amazing’ moments at the early stages as the opening track suggests, to the eventual betrayal and breaking apart, to the moment he has to let go and move on. With his clever sampling of classics like Usher’s ‘Lovers & Friends’ and ‘Dilemma’ by Nelly and Kelly Rowland, ZEE also pays his homage to one of the best eras of R&B and hip hop music.

Speaking about the inspiration behind his Summer ’98 EP, ZEE says, “I feel like a lot of people can relate to some of the feelings I express on these songs. Each track really means a lot to me as far as revealing how I felt and letting things go. Unpacking a mixture of emotions, the EP really takes you on a ride with highs and lows. Sonically, I wanted to take people back to that era of music, while incorporating my own style into it. The music nowadays sounds completely different so I wanted to appreciate some of the music from back then, because those are still some of my favourite songs to listen to even now”.

With an European tour set for summer 2021 and his eyes set on performing at Rolling Loud in Portugal next year, ZEE is coming into his own as an artist and producer for the ages, and getting that bit more closer to his dream of “connecting with the whole world with his music and leaving a legacy of work that I can be proud of”. Having only just moved to Los Angeles two years ago to pursue music, fast-forward to 2020 and ZEE already boasts over a million plays, support from some of the biggest radio tastemakers, and with the release of his excellent new EP Summer ’98, the Canadian rising star is certainly one to watch!
