On the back of last year’s lead singles ‘Brother, Why You Gotta Love Her’ featuring Maverick Sabre, and ‘You Saw The Devil In Me’, which have seen strong support from Billboard, BBC Radio 1, Clash Magazine,Complex, BBC 1Xtra and Spotify, among others, Nottingham soul musician LIAM BAILEY is excited to kickstart 2019 with his brand new fourth studio EP Brand New, and long-awaited follow up to his 2014 seminal and critically acclaimed debut album Definitely Now, backed by his new ‘Hold Tight‘ music video, as premiered via AFROPUNK.

Premiered by EARMILK and out now via First Access, the 6-track Brand New EP was written solely by Liam Bailey, and produced by frequent collaborator Rich Cooper, who has worked with the likes of Banks, Lucy Rose,Billie Marten and Tom Odell, with Fred Cox (James Morrison, Col3trane, Lion Babe) coming on board to produce one of the EP tracks ‘Hold Tight’. The new record sees Liam Bailey at his absolute finest, and highlights just why he continues to be one of the finest voices and purest talents in British soul today.

All the things we have come to know and love about Liam Bailey in the past near decade are immediately evident on his new Brand New EP, from his unforgettable voice, which has drawn comparisons with legends such as Otis Redding, Sam Cooke and Bob Marley, to his soul, reggae and blues pedigree, and his honest and relatable songwriting. It’s no wonder that he continues to garner support from the likes of Annie Mac,Zane Lowe and Jools Holland, and co-signs from peers such as Paloma Faith, Ellie Goulding and Jessie J, among others.

The EP opens with the expansive and mood lifting title track ‘Brand New’, and the EP’s lead single ‘Brother, Why You Gotta Love Her’, which sees Liam Bailey and Maverick Sabre lamenting lost love over a soulful guitar-led music landscape, before it goes into self-reflection mode on the thought-provoking piano ballad‘You Saw The Devil In Me’. It briefly snaps out of it on the uplifting life-affirming rare groove-esque ‘Hold Tight’, before closing out with ‘Come Clean’, which lifts the roof off, with its infectious dirty guitar arrangements and Liam’s vocal excellence and performance prowess.

Speaking about the inspiration for his Brand New EP, Liam Bailey says, “the EP is heavily inspired by a lot of new music I’ve been listening to recently & I’m especially loving the synths I’ve been hearing. I linked with Rich Cooper with this fresh sound in mind. The way we worked was really cool; we mainly jammed around until we caught a vibe that felt right to keep going with. We had lots of great musical spaces to write my recent truths against a different sound to what I’m used to. Although I couldn’t help going old school on ‘Hold Tight’ with Fred Cox – the song has s been on repeat at home, it’s proper uplifting which is rare for me”.
