Following on from the success of ‘Buss It Up’ with Big Tobz and Deefundo, which has been supported by BBC 1Xtra, Highsnobiety, Spotify, GRM Daily, Nation Of Billions and Rinse FM, among others, and having just been nominated for ‘Producer Of The Year’ at the GRM Daily Rated Awards, acclaimed London producers and UK Afrowave pioneers TEAM SALUT return just in time for carnival season with their exciting new summer jam ‘Drive N Motion’, premiered via The FADER and BBC 1Xtra, and taken from their highly anticipated EP, which is due to be released later this year.
Written, performed and produced by Team Salut, ‘Drive N Motion’ is the perfect Afrobashment offering for the lush summer weather. Laced with an infectious bassline and dancehall rhythm, glorious melodies and catchy lyrics to sing-along to, not only do Team Salut prove that they can carry a massive record all by themselves, but they have also delivered one of the songs of the summer. This one is guaranteed to go off, when they perform it live on the infamous Red Bull Stage at Notting Hill Carnival this year.
Speaking about the inspiration behind ‘Drive N Motion’, Team Salut say, “the record was inspired by the desire for good weather and good vibes. When it gets cold, we often have to create our own inspiration; ‘Drive N Motion’ is a product of that. The song is about enjoying good vibes with a person you really click with, and sharing your world with that person. This is a feel good song that can make people dance, laugh, smile and create happy memories together”.
Expanding on how the record came about, the artist/producer duo add that ‘Drive N Motion is “a feel good vibe. The weather wasn’t so great at the time but we were in a good mood, and wanted to do something warm and wavy. We tried to bring a minimalistic old school feel; using old stock sounds selections and keeping the melodies easy and catchy without losing our Salut sound. It’s a great song to drive to, dance to or have a drink and chill to”.
As well as hitting 3 million plays on their own singles as artists, ‘Hot Property’, ‘Wagon’, and ‘Buss It Up’, Team Salut are also the production force behind some of this year’s biggest cultural hits and phenomena, including Yxng Bane’s latest hit single ‘Vroom’, which has been certified silver, and is the Disturbing London artist’s highest UK charting solo single, and Afro B’s viral sensation ‘Drogba (Joanna)’, which is nearing 30 million plays, and has just snagged Afrobeats legend Wizkid for the official remix.
