Today, Cherri V unveils a stripped version of the previously released ‘Leave Me Be’, premiered via Clash Music. Following on the back of the release of her latest single ‘Things You Do’, which was met with rave reviews and championed by BBC 1Xtra, Capital Xtra, The 405 and SingersRoom, among others, the British Soul songstress continues to tease us with music from her forthcoming long awaited debut album Brown Eyed Soul.

Originally produced by Joey Stickz and arranged by Hypertone (Snakehips, Jessie J, Alesha Dixon), the stripped version of ‘Leave Me Be’ sees Cherri V collaborating with musicians Hannah V (Rihanna, JP Cooper), Joey Grant (Wretch 32, Angel, Gabrielle) and Junior Kirton (Camila Cabello, Jasmine Sullivan, Shakka), to deliver an unadulterated, acoustic and emotive piano-driven iteration of the original, which allows Cherri V to open up further to her audiences.

Speaking about the inspiration for wanting to make a stripped version of ‘Leave Me Be’, Cherri V says, “As a songwriter who wears her heart on her sleeve and reveals a lot through her lyrics, I’m always in favour of stripping back a song and approaching it acoustically. ‘Leave Me Be’ hones in on vulnerability and honesty, and this stripped version of the record just allows me to dig a little deeper”.

On how this version came together, Cherri V adds that, “Hannah V is such a talented pianist and producer, and always adds another element to my songs when she brings her own unique twist on it. She was the catalyst for this version, and along with Joey on bass and Junior on percussions, we were able to really shred the layers off this song, and bring the lyrics of the song, and themes of vulnerability and acceptance, further into focus”.

Revered as one of the best pure vocalists to come out of the UK, the forthcoming debut album Brown Eyed Soul from Cherri V has been a long time coming, and after three acclaimed EPs, a UK top 20 single, historic collaborations with Jessie J, Dawn Richard, Wiley and Lethal Bizzle, and millions of plays, the London native is excited to let fans and critics into her world of Brown Eyed Soul in 2018.
